Fernando García-Baró ⎮cello teacher
Fernando García-Baró was born in Madrid in 1989. He began his cello studies with Sergei Mesropian at the age of six. In 2008, he moved to Switzerland to continue his training at the Geneva University of Music under the tutelage of Denis Severin, with whom he obtained both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Instrumental Pedagogy. He received the highest marks in both degrees. Upon completing his Master's, he was awarded the Albert Lullin Prize from the city of Geneva as the best student in the String Department of his year.
Between 2014 and 2016, he continued his training in Dresden, Germany, where he earned a Master's degree in Musical Performance at the Hochschule für Musik “Carl Maria von Weber” with cellist Emil Rovner.
The year 2016 marked a turning point: he won the position of principal cellist at the Mannheim Philharmonic Orchestra while also securing a place at the Giuseppe Sinopoli Academy of the Staatskapelle Dresden, the oldest orchestra in Europe, where he worked for two years and received guidance from Norbert Anger. With the Staatskapelle, he had the opportunity to perform in the most prestigious concert halls in Europe (Musikverein in Vienna, Semperoper in Dresden, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid...) with artists such as Christian Thielemann, Franz Welser-Möst, Renée Fleming, Daniil Trifonov, Sonya Yoncheva, Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, and many others.
Fernando continued as principal cellist in Mannheim until 2022.
In addition to his formal training, Fernando García-Baró has had the opportunity to participate in numerous master classes with the world's best musicians, including Daniel Grosgurin, Gary Hoffman, Natalia Gutman, the Jerusalem Quartet, and Christophe Coin.
Passionate about working with young people, he has dedicated the past few years to teaching.
Fernando plays a cello built in 2010 by Jürg Buchwalder in the city of Basel, with a 2017 bow by Roderich Paesold.
